Nedbank Private Wealth Order of Merit – Round 2. Sunday 6th May, Peel Golf Club

Men's Competition

The mist had come down on peel overnight on Saturday, to give the early starters a tricky start.

The golf course itself looking really good to the eye. Of those early starters eyes of most people must of been on Craig Astin, after his performance in the last round at KEB. Also out early, were squad members, Robert Noon, Liam Cowin, Tommy Fenlon, Mark Sutton and Kevin Moore.

Craig Astin couldn't follow his heroics of the previous round, but Liam Cowin returned a 69, to set the pace early on and Kevin Moore returning a 71. Also out early, was local man Lee Morgan, who must of been one of the favourites on the day, but Lee had an unusual off day on Sunday.

The weather improved for the later starters, with bright sunshine and a little heat in the air. Of the late starters, big hitting Jamie Arneil and another local Peel lad, the steady Mark Pugh, came back with 70 and 73 respectively.

Scoring wasn't as easy as it looked on the day. Any score in the region 72-73 was looking respectable.

As the morning went on, the senior players looking to get picked for the senior squad, went out at the back of the field. With Simon Murray shooting a 70 Gross, which included 6 birdies, 4 of them on the back 9, which would mean he would definitely be in the prizes on the day.

Best on the day was Castletown man Tom Harris, Shooting a 69, but winning on a count back from Liam Cowin. Tom having three birdies on the back nine and coming back in 32.

it was nice to see a few new faces, also great to see some of the juniors playing the 18 hole and mixing with the Gents.

I’d like to thank our hosts Peel Golf Club for their hospitality on the day and the players for supporting the Nedbank Order of Merits. Also, Lewis in the pro shop, who helped me out, and allowed me the time to play.

Ladies's Competition

When the Ladies Tee'd off at 10.00am 'Mannanins Cloak' had finally lifted and they enjoyed glorious sunshine for their competition.

With a few new faces who didn't play the previous round at KEB, the leader board looked somewhat different.

Leading the competition with a Gross score of 79 was our County Captain Lynda Simpson, followed closely by Peel's Lea Dawson with 80 and Joy Morris of Ramsey with 81.
