Isle of Man Golf Order of Merit Series Results

Nedbank Order of Merit, Round 1

After the glorious weather of the previous few days, the competitors for the first Nedbank Order of Merit at King Edward Bay on the 22nd April were greeted by grey skies and the prospect of rain and low cloud.

The first few matches out were the lucky ones, having just to put up with grey skies. The later players had to contend with rain wind and fog and I think this was reflected in the winning scores.

Local knowledge played a big part in the Men’s results with 5 players in the first 6 in the Nett competition coming from the host club.

Hole in one

High point of the day must go to Tommy Fenlon. Though not in the prizes, Tommy produced a hole in one on the 12th and he is in his final year as a Junior (U/18). Part of Craig’s winning score was an eagle on the 11th.

75 players entered the competition.

Ladies Scores

The weather was still very mixed when the Ladies Competition started at 11.00am, but was due improve later in the morning.

In the Nett competition, it was 2 of the Junior Girls who stole the show. Emma Noon of Mount Murray scoring 71 closely followed by Lea Dawson of Peel with 74.

11 players entered the competition.

 Dandara Junior Order of Merit

The first round of this year’s Dandara Junior Order of Merit was held on Sunday 22nd April at King Edward Bay Golf Club.  The sun came out for the juniors in the afternoon with some good golf played in all categories and age groups.

Leading the way in the U18’s 18 holes was Douglas’s Tommy Fenlon with 75/73 Nett from Rowany’s Jack Gilbert who hit 76 Gross/73 Nett.  Tommy’s round included a hole in one on the 11th!

In the Under 14’s 18 holes it was 2 club mates from Mount Murray Golf Club that took the top spots.  Freddie Dancox shot 80 Gross/68 Nett to take the 1st place, with 2nd place going to Sam Crawford with a round off 95 Gross/79 Nett.

The 9 Hole Competition saw another Mount Murray member, Jenna Crawford take the honours on the day with 21 points.  In the 6 Hole Competition, it was again a member of Mount Murray that took 1st place.  Shannon Hands 14 points just pipped Douglas’s Finley Richards with 13 points.

In the Flag Competition, Cameron Benham from Douglas came out on top with his 36 shots completing 8 Hole.  Second went to Claire Egan from King Edward Buy who just started the 7th Hole with here 36 shots.  These 2 junior players along with  Zara Benham from Douglas who just missed out on 2nd will now receive their Junior Handicap of 54 which will enable them to play in the 6 Hole Competition next time.  An enjoyable day was had by all who competed and those that watched the junior sections.  A big thank you to the new Isle of Man Golf President, Roy Clague for presenting the prizes to the junior winners.  The next Dandara Junior Order of Merit is at Peel Golf Club on Sunday 6th May.
