Success for Gandy

Tom Gandy secured his place in the PGA Europro Tour by finishing tied 12th in the Qualifying School last week at Frilford Heath Golf Club with a score of four under par.

This is a tremendous achievement for Tom and is a great first step on the professional golf ladder.

By finishing in the top 30, Tom has earned his Category 3 card which gives him full playing rights on the Europro Tour this year. The tour gets underway again at Frilford Heath Golf Club with the The Matchroom Sport Championship taking place from Wednesday, May 16 and concluding on Friday, May 18.

The journey to succeed in achieving his card started with first qualifying at Caversham Heath Golf Club on 28 and 29 March. Tom’s two round total of one under par was good enough to give him 5th place overall out of 83 competitors, 38 of whom would qualify.

Tom Harris also qualified for the final stage by competing as an amateur at Formby Hall, and his two rounds of +4 were good enough for a tied 19th place out of the 43 qualifiers.

Those players who progress to final stage qualifying earn at least a Category 14 which give some playing rights on the Tour, but achieving full playing rights was the goal for both.

For the final stages at Frilford Heath Golf Club,  the recent rain meant wet conditions made play a little tricky, but both Gandy and Harris joined 240 golfers to play one round on each of the Red and Blue Courses. After this, a cut of the leading 80 players and ties was made (+2 and better)and they went on to play a final-round on the Blue course on Friday, 6 April.

The cut fell 3 shots too low for Tom Harris, who finished +5 for the first two rounds so sadly missing out this time, but we all know that his time will come again soon and we wish him all success for the future

Tom Gandy’s scores of 68 and 70 (-6) saw him in second place after the first two rounds, 2 shots behind the eventual winner, Jack Davidson, who went on to card a 5 under par 67 in the final round, including a hole in one!

Tom’s final round of 74 was good enough for a tied 12th place, which also meant he was in the prize money - always a bonus.

Gandy had a plan to go to Qualifying School and earn his card to play on the The PGA EuroPro Tour this year, and he has achieved this.

Tom's hard work, determination and, more importantly, a belief in his ability as a golfer to improve and succeed are the qualities needed to step further forward in his journey to play professional golf at the highest level.,

He should be proud of his achievements so far, and we all look forward to hearing of more success this season. Well done Tom!
