WELCOME TO ISLE OF MAN GOLF
A number of IOM Golf's senior men recently travelled to Ulverston Golf Club in Cumbria to play in the 36 hole Northern Seniors Championship.
Ulverston is a fairly undulating par 71 parkland course measuring 6,264 yards. The course was in good condition with the fairways running fast and the greens at a medium pace. The weather was superb for both days and with an entry of 132 players, some of which were senior international,s the scoring was likely to be low
In the first round Geoff Skillicorn returned a very impressive score of level par 71 which placed him well towards the top of the 1st round leaderboard.
With an early start time on the second day, Geoff produced another good score of 76 which saw him firmly at the top of the leaderboard for a large part of the day. The competition finally closed at about 7pm and the final results saw Geoff placed first in his age group (60 to 65) and joint 8th overall. A good result for Geoff and for Island Senior Golf.
Dave Dancox, on his first outing away as a Senior, also produced good scores of 78 and 75. This placed him well in the top half of the leaderboard and eagerly looking forward to his next Senior outing.
To show the level of golf produced over the two days, the leading score was by Richard Norton who shot 64 gross on the first day (a new course record) and 70 on the second giving a final total of 8 under par.
At the presentation Geoff gave a short speech thanking the Northern Counties officials for all their support and Ulverston Golf Club for their kind hospitality and the use of their course.
The next outing for the Seniors is in early September to play in the Senior Northern Counties Qualifying (6-a-side) followed by the 36 hole David Marsh Open at Southport and Ainsdale.
Finally, well done to both Geoff and Dave on an excellent performance.
