Castletown Douglas King Edward Bay Mount Murray Peel Port St Mary Ramsey Rowany

Seniors lap up the sunshine!

Sunday was a beautiful day for a game of golf on one of our superb courses and the competitors in the IOM Golf Senior Men’s Championship enjoyed every minute at Rowany Golf Club, though some resorted to simply enjoying the views. Slick greens meant that these gents had to call on every ounce of experience as course management was at a premium, with any approach from above the hole proving very tricky.

Peel’s Mark Pugh is enjoying terrific form at the moment and dropped just one, shooting 71 gross to take the Championship trophy, though he was chased all the way by second-placed Keith Ward on 72.

However, as you’d expect, there’s more than just the main gross event going on in the Seniors. Stableford scores are also recorded with prizes on offer commensurate with the numbers of entries in the various age groups.

Grant Williamson from Douglas took the 50-54 category with 33 points and, with the same score, Peel’s Peter Cubbon won in the 70+ group.

Ramsey’s Ward brothers shone in the 55-59 group; both had 37 points, but Jeff stole top slot from Keith on countback.

The hotly-contested 60-69 category saw the best stableford score of the day from home player, Wilf Lowey, whose 41 took the Three-score Cup by three clear points from second-placed Neil Harris (Mount Murray).

Many thanks to Rowany for hosting this competition and to Ant and Gary for compiling the results. Full results are available here
